Best Places for Fall Family Photos in Boise (2026 Guide)

Wondering where to take family photos in Boise this fall? Here are some of my favorite locations, what makes each one unique, and the best time of year to photograph them.

Every fall, one of the first questions I get from families is, "Where should we take our family photos?"

The truth is, there isn't one perfect answer. The best location depends on the look you're hoping for, your kids' ages, and how adventurous everyone feels.

Below are a few of my favorite Boise-area locations that photograph beautifully every autumn.

Kathryn Albertson Park

For families hoping for colorful fall leaves, Kathryn Albertson Park is always a favorite.

Walking paths, ponds, bridges, and changing trees create lots of variety without needing to travel far.

This location works especially well for younger children because there are so many little places to explore.

This location is always busy, and sometimes you have to wait for the perfect spot to open up, but it’s popular for a reason, especially in the Fall.

Top of 8th Street

If you love warm golden light, rolling foothills, and a timeless Boise feel, 8th Street is hard to beat.

I especially love photographing families here about an hour before sunset when the hills begin to glow.

It's a great choice if you want:

  • Natural golden grass

  • Open space for kids to run

  • Boise foothill views

  • A relaxed, casual feel

Boise River Greenbelt

The Greenbelt offers beautiful tree-lined paths and soft evening light throughout the fall.

Depending on the section we choose, it can feel surprisingly secluded while still being right in town.

If you're hoping for a classic Boise look with lots of greenery mixed with autumn color, this is a wonderful option.

Local Farms

One of my favorite things about photographing families in the Treasure Valley is taking advantage of seasonal farms.

Late summer flowers, pumpkins, orchards, and open fields create a cozy fall atmosphere that's perfect for young families.

Availability depends on the season and farm schedules, so we always plan these a little earlier.

The Boise Foothills

If you're drawn to a simpler, more natural backdrop, the foothills are beautiful from September through November.

Golden grasses, soft hills, and wide-open skies keep the focus exactly where it belongs: on your family.

Not Sure Which Location Is Right?

Don't worry, you don't have to decide before booking.

When you reserve your session, I'm happy to recommend locations based on:

  • the colors you love

  • your family's personality

  • how old your kids are

  • how much walking everyone wants to do

  • and the time of year/day

Every family is different, and choosing the right location is part of creating photos that actually feel like you.

Planning Your Fall Session?

Fall dates tend to fill quickly because of the cooler weather and beautiful colors.

If you've been thinking about updating your family photos this year, now is a great time to get your session on the calendar.

I'd love to help you choose the perfect location and document this season of your family's story.
